Week 3 Blog Post

Week Three Bradley Nelsen       Deed I Do     Preformed By Ruth Etting          Deed I Do preformed by Ruth Etting and written by Fred Rose is another prime example of jazz in the 1920's. Granted, this dosen't sound much like the the typical jazz melodies produced by musicians such as Louis Armstrong, This song was made to appeal to a different crowd. With its poetic, ballad-like lyrics that tells the story of falling in love and its long verse-refrain structure this is a different type of jazz made to appeal to a different crowd of people.          This simpler, more structured form of jazz music is what brought it to the mainstream and to all public eyes for all to enjoy. Deed I Do draws inspiration from the works of Paul Whiteman, who's concert jazz band grew popular enough to give him the name of "The king of jazz".          Deed I do has such an angelic melody that follows the flow ...

   Week Two  Bradley Nelsen                     Ain't Misbehavin'       sung by Thomas "Fats" Waller             Ain't misbehavin' sung by Thomas Waller in 1929 is an excellent example of when jazz was at its most popular and its most abundant and obvious examples of polyrythum and syncapation.               The Song has a rather somber tone bass tone with an upbeat trumpet that, In my opinion, shows the happiness one feels with a strong love with your better half, along with the stressful and sadness emotions one feels when you are separated or have a dispute. The ballad like lyrics are direct on the story they are trying to tell. Welcome to my first post!                   Hello, My name is Bradley Max Nelsen and this is my first blog post for proffessor Bradshaw's 1020-01, Popular Music in America class at Southern utah university.  I like a very expansive variety of music. From the early Ninties rappers like Biggie Smalls and Ice cube to today's indie bands like 88rising.
